In 1989 a striking political transformation swept through what was then the German Democratic Republic, resulting ultimately in the reunification of the two separate German states.

Driven by these developments, in 1990 two mechanical engineers joined together to form the company BAU-Metall GmbH Rostock. The first activities were focused on the search for an individual corporate identity, beginning with execution of simple metalworking assignments. Working on private construction sites we took up the struggle against more established companies. Our service spectrum ranged from construction of stairs and balustrades to installation of prefabricated stairways and sheet metal doors all the way to installing water meters.

After earning a major assignment for the German Telekom, we equipped 36 "Digital Telecommunications Engineering" buildings with windows, doors and a wide variety of building metalwork features. This resulted in a fundamental change in our client structure. Our customers up to that point had been private parties and medium-sized construction companies; but from then on we worked chiefly with major construction development companies and clients from the public sector. The size of our team grew from an original ten to over 40 staff members.

Our machine and workshop infrastructure grew with the increasing demands. The motor pool was enlarged. Work preparation was enhanced by introduction of the computer in the form of CAD systems. Our staff acquired specialized welding certifications and production licenses for manufacturing fire doors, and Quality Management was introduced in compliance with ISO 9001.

The company mastered the challenges of continuously growing market requirements in terms of both personnel and mechanical resources. Today we are proud of a long list of attractive references. Influenced by the desire to concentrate on high-quality tasks in construction, the decision was made not to work with aluminum. Thus today BAU-Metall GmbH Rostock manufactures exclusively windows, doors and facades made only of steel and glass. This of course means that fire and smoke protection receive particular attention in our activities.

BAU-Metall GmbH Rostock was the first company in Germany to manufacture a certified Jansen fire door. Furthermore, the BAU-Metall GmbH Rostock service range includes heavy steel construction and construction metalworking, covering production of support structures, stairs, balustrades and sheet metal work both in steel and stainless steel tailored to fulfill the customer's wishes. All work is performed in our own workshop by highly motivated and trained experts. Special services such as laser cutting, surface protection and corrosion protection are performed in cooperation with local partners.
